Kinesology

What is kinesiology?

Kinesiology is a form of therapy which uses muscle monitoring or feedback that allows us to find out what is stressing or weakening the body and then what is required to help strengthen the body.

With Kinesiology the outcome is to release stress such as physical, nutritional, mental and emotional and allow the body to go about it’s natural processes more easily and efficiently.

What is muscle testing?

I use two types of muscle testing one is the Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) which is a non-invasive assessment method to evaluate neuromusculoskeletal integrity, also called Applied Kinesiology where muscles are tested, not to evaluate muscular strength, but neural control. The second type is the kinesiology-style MMT (kMMT) which  uses one muscle, tested repeatedly, to scan for the presence of specific stressors.

what can I expect from a session?

In your first session, you will be asked to fill out a brief paperwork, this will include your medical history, any supplements you might be taking, and the reasons that you are there on the day, such as physical, nutritional or emotional challenges. After the paperwork has been filled out, the Kinesiologist will ask you questions in relation to the answers you have given and we discuss the goal for the session. This gives us a roadmap of where you are now and where you would rather be.

Kinesiology sessions are fully clothed, but we do use a massage table for you to lie on, and with the information discussed we muscle monitor for feedback, asking specific questions to your body looking for stress responses, and looking for ideal ways to strengthen the stress responses.

who can benefit from kinesiology?

Anyone who would like a little bit of change or support in their life, or if you are experiencing stress in a part of your life, feeling overwhelmed and are just not sure what to do.

Kinesiology can help you to reduce stress and discomfort so that you can see improvements in your school, work, home, sports and relationships, as well as in your health and vitality. Kinesiology can find the point where the stress began, and find out how to release it and let it go.

When our body is in the fight, flight or freeze response, many kind of symptoms can occur, physically we can feel tense in our muscles, emotionally we can feel angry, sad, anxious or in grief, stress pays a big role in the health of our body. Kinesiology can help support you to release those areas and find out how to move forward. Sometimes stress can come from the past and we may need to revisit that to move forward. As Kinesiologists we help you process things so you can feel lighter once again with some answers and positive reinforcements.

Testimonials

I visited Titania because I have been suffering from fatigue. Her kinesiology session was extremely thorough and I feel that she got to the route of my fatigue issue and was able to suggest a solution which so far is proving effective. I would be happy to recommend her.

On the reliability and validity of manual muscle testing: a literature review

MMT is not just testing for actual muscle strength “rather it may also test for the nervous system’s ability to adapt the muscle to the changing pressure of the examiner’s test. A nervous system functioning optimally will immediately attempt to adapt a muscle’s activity to meet the demands of the test. There appears to be a delay in the recruitment of muscle motor units when the nervous system is functioning inadequately. This delay varies with the severity of the nervous system’s impairment, and influences the amount of weakness shown during the MMT.”

Correlation of applied kinesiology muscle testing findings with serum immunoglobulin levels for food allergies.

This study showed a high degree of correlation between AK procedures used to identify food allergies and serum levels of immunoglobulins for those foods. AK methods in this study consisted of stimulation of taste bud receptors with various foods, and observation of changes in manual muscle testing that resulted. The patient was judged to be allergic to foods that created a disruption of muscle function. Blood drawn subsequently showed that patients had antibodies to the foods which were found to be allergenic through AK assessment.

Expanding the Neurological Examination Using Functional Neurologic Assessment Part II: Neurologic Basis of Applied Kinesiology.

Functional Neurologic Assessment and treatment methods common to the practice of applied kinesiology are presented. These methods are proposed to enhance neurological examination and treatment procedures toward more effective assessment and care of functional impairment. These assessment procedures are used in addition to other standard diagnostic measures to augment rather than replace the existing diagnostic armamentarium.

Applied kinesiology: distinctions in its definition and interpretation.

“Applied kinesiology (AK) addresses this interest in that it is a system which attempts to evaluate numerous aspects of health (structural, chemical, and mental) by the manual testing of muscles combined with other standard methods of diagnosis. It leads to a variety of conservative, non-invasive treatments which involve joint manipulations or mobilizations, myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture skills, clinical nutrition and dietary management, counseling skills, evaluating environmental irritants, and various reflex techniques. The effectiveness of these ancillary treatments is believed to be consistent with the expanded construct validity of the manual muscle test (MMT), as described, although this assertion has primarily been tested in outcome studies. AK and its adjunctive procedures (challenge and therapy localization) are highlighted in this review providing details of its implementation as prescribed by an International College of Applied Kinesiology‘s Board of Examiners, cited for its scholarly and scientific activities. Because these procedures are believed to identify specific articular, soft tissue, biochemical, or emotional issues underlying muscle function, the applicability of this diagnostic method for all clinicians treating muscle imbalance disorders is described.”

Estimating the accuracy of muscle response testing: two randomised-order blinded studies.

“MRT has repeatedly demonstrated significant accuracy for distinguishing lies from truths…”

Muscle Strength Grading.

“Muscle strength testing is an important component of the physical exam that can reveal information about neurologic deficits. It is used to evaluate weakness and can be effective in differentiating true weakness from imbalance or poor endurance.”
