assistive technology - equipment

Equipment, or Assistive Technology is one of several solutions to help people with an injury or disability.  Occupational Therapists are experts in assessing clients  and prescribing equipment that best fits the client and helps them achieve their goals.

It is important to engage an Occupational Therapist to prescribe the equipment as there are many options available, often with different features and different risks.  Some equipment might appear low risk and easily accessible via a chemist however this may cause future safety issues particularly where the equipment needs to fit a condition that fluctuates or declines over time.

An Occupational Therapist conducts an assessment with the client, reviews their environment and trials different options. Our Occupational Therapists only prescribe equipment after a thorough assessment process to ensure it will be relevant to the goals, environment and people who need to use it. Assistive technology (AT) application through the NDIS is likely to include multiple trials to determine the most suitable option, and following this a detailed NDIS AT report to support the recommendation.

Our Occupational Therapists at Life InMotion are not affiliated with any suppliers and therefore there is no possible conflict of interest and a greater range of equipment we can look into and trial with our clients.
